17 Apr 5 Tips to Help You Fall in Love with Your Job (Again)
It’s common to go through phases where you dread getting up and going to work every day. The days may drag on and maybe you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. While these feelings can be discouraging and make you want to give up and begin the job hunt once again, it may not be necessary. There are a few steps you can take to help you fall back in love with your job and experience feelings of satisfaction, joy, and self-confidence.
Here are five tips to help you love your job.
1. Think back to your job offer
What attracted you to this job in the first place? Why did you accept the job and what feelings did you experience when that offer letter arrived? Did the company have a certain mission or goal that you cared about? Did you see a lot of growth opportunity?
Taking the time to reflect on the job can help you reignite those feelings and experience some excitement once again.
2. Learn something new
Is there a certain skill or a technology application that you don’t know? It may be in your best interest to take a class — whether in person or online — to develop these skills.
This will not only make you more of an asset to your entire team, but it will boost your self-confidence and your excitement to come into work every day. You may find you love your job a little more.
3. Make a list of things you love about your job
Research shows that practicing gratitude can greatly increase your happiness! Making a gratitude list is something you can do when you feel great disdain towards your job.
Sit down and make a list of things you love about your job, what aspects of your job you are grateful for, etc. Add to this list regularly and be sure to express your appreciation at work as well. This may seem like a simple thing but it can provide powerful results.
4. Use your benefits
Did you know in the United States that employees gave up more than 200 million vacation days throughout the year? While you may not love your job or every task you complete at your office, there are many things that you can love — such as your benefits. When you don’t take advantage of all the perks you are given, you are missing out on opportunities to find joy in your work.
5. Improve your work/life balance
Many individuals begin to dislike their job because they feel burned out. They are unmotivated and stressed by certain responsibilities or tasks. If you’re struggling to find happiness in your own employment, carefully evaluate your own work/life balance.
How often do you take breaks at work? Do you work most weekends just to catch up? Do you forfeit sleep to check emails? By improving your work/life balance, you’ll find you can be happier and more engaged with both your work and personal life responsibilities.
Going to a job you dislike can take its toll on you. However, by keeping the above tips in mind, you will find that it is possible to (still) love your job.
